New pedestrian walkways to Rise ... - Apr. 16, 2003
IN THE next few months, pedestrians could expect to use a new kind of overpass: see-through, roofless, narrow, metal walkways.
Construction of around five overpass walkways will begin in the next few weeks, after the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) bids out the contracts, MMDA general manager Robert Nacianceno said.
The walkways will be built along Elliptical Road and Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City -- busy roads that lack pedestrian lanes. Commonwealth Avenue has been dubbed a "killer" because of the number of pedestrians hit by vehicles there.
